Mies’s phrase encapsulates the line of thought that gave rise to this house. The minimalist premise was the driving intention present throughout the design process.
The honesty of bare materials without cladding, the purity of geometry, the absence of ornament, and the use of only essential elements give the work its own identity.
Toward the street, it presents as a forceful, almost blind volume, to which a glass box is attached and an imposing slit defines the entrance. Toward the rear, the facade opens up to make the most of river views.
On the ground floor, spaces are integrated, without walls, except for a minimal service area. The upper floor houses private uses, and continuing upward leads to an accessible terrace that serves as an outdoor extension and lookout.
The interior ambiance features artworks, organically shaped furniture, and wooden elements that provide the essential warmth for user comfort.
