Brava House

design brief
Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea along the Costa Brava, Brava House is conceived as a synthesis of architecture, landscape, and materiality.
The project is driven by a clear gesture: two horizontal planes that define the way of living.
An open, transparent base connects daily life to the outdoors, while a more contained upper volume shelters the private spaces within a precise and restrained geometry.
The ground floor unfolds as a continuous sequence of social spaces, where interior and exterior dissolve into one another. A covered gallery acts as an intermediate threshold, extending the living areas toward the landscape and establishing a direct relationship with the water. The pool, conceived as another horizontal plane, aligns with the horizon and enhances the perception of the territory.
In contrast, the upper level is conceived as a more abstract volume. Its exposed concrete envelope defines a pure form, strategically carved to frame views and allow controlled natural light to enter. Curtains and interior filters provide privacy while maintaining a connection with the surroundings.
Materiality follows a logic of balance: concrete brings weight and permanence; wood introduces warmth and human scale; glass dissolves boundaries, allowing Mediterranean light to become a central element. Together, these materials create an atmosphere where solidity and lightness coexist in a controlled tension.
The approach is designed as a gradual transition. A more contained path leads into a courtyard that organizes circulation and anticipates the opening toward the landscape. From there, the house unfolds through a visual sequence that culminates in the sea, establishing a direct relationship between architecture, the horizon, and the Mediterranean.
Rather than imposing itself on the site, Brava House seeks to integrate with it. The placement respects the topography and the rocky character of the terrain, while vegetation complements the architecture without competing with it.
The project proposes a way of living where geometric precision, honest materiality, and a deep connection to the landscape come together to create a spatial experience that is serene, contemporary, and timeless.
